About Cassaro Winery
Blending Texas wines with Italian tradition, UNT alumnus John Matthews and his wife Jill founded Cassaro Winery to bring a Tuscan wine-tasting experience home to DFW. The Cassaro family’s wine-making history dates back to John’s grandfather Giuseppe Cassaro, who emigrated to the United States from Italy.
Today John uses 100% Texas grapes to make Texas wines in true Italian fashion, including the Avante Rose, which received the 2019 State Fair of Texas GO TEXAN Blue Ribbon, the Experience Rose’ Silver Certificate and many more honors.
Located on nearly three acres of countryside in historic downtown Ovilla, the grounds feature native pecan and fruit trees, pergolas, a patio fountain, picnic tables and a 1910 Texas farmhouse remodeled into a Tuscan-style tasting room and winery.
Family and friends are the heart and soul of Cassaro, so the winery is designed for people to relax, sip and share special moments with loved ones. And, with grassy play spaces and games for kids to play, Cassaro Winery is open to all.
Cassaro winery is located just 25 minutes south of Dallas off I-35 and FM 664, so John and Jill invite you to “join the family” for tastings, facility tours and a glass of North Texas Tempranillo.
