UNT Alumni Association Scholarship Program

Each year the UNT Alumni Association awards deserving students scholarship support through contributions made by generous alumni.

Applications for the 2022-23 school year will open November 15, 2021. The scholarship application deadline is March 1, 2022.

Scholarship amounts vary each semester. A list of current UNT Alumni Association scholarships and eligibility requirements are below.

Current Scholarships

The Collin County Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a graduate from any high school within Collin County.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship and what makes the applicant a strong candidate for the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

The Denton County Alumni Chapter scholarship is awarded to a graduate of one of the following North Denton County High Schools who is currently residing in these postal codes: Argyle (76226), Aubrey (76227), Denton (76201 through 76210), Justin (76247), Pilot Point (76258), Ponder (76259), or Sanger (76226).

To apply, please provide a completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.

The Denton County Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a graduate from any high school within Denton County.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

The Tarrant County Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a graduate from any high school within Tarrant County.

Preference will be given to students who are graduates of high schools within the following Texas Gulf Coast Region counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker or Waller. In the event no applicant meets this criterion, then students who graduated from any Texas high school will be eligible for consideration.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

The UNT Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship gives preference to students with family members who are currently members of the UNT Alumni Association.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • Written evidence of being a legacy; having a parent, grandparent, sibling or extended family member as an alumnus and current member in good-standing of the University of North Texas Alumni Association.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University in effect at the time of any award;
  • Maintain full-time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need full-time enrollment; and
  • The UNT BAN scholarship gives preference to students who have a proven interest in African-American history/studies.

To apply, applicants will provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association Scholarship application
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in African-American culture, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a parent, grandparent, sibling or extended family member as an alumnus and a current member in good-standing of the University of North Texas Alumni Association.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

The Lisa and Charlie Smith Scholarship is awarded with preference to graduates from Irving High School in Irving, Texas. Second preference is given to graduates from Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Third preference will be given to graduates from any high school in Tarrant County, Texas.

To apply, please provide:

  • A completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.
  • A letter of application of no more than 1,000 words explaining the applicant’s interest in the scholarship, as well as a brief explanation of leadership experience and educational and/or professional goals.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or previous employer. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.

The Jerome M. “Bruzzy” Westheimer, Jr. Endowed Alumni Scholarship gives preference to applicants who are graduates of Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma and are pursuing a degree in business. Second preference will be given to an Oklahoma native pursuing a degree in business. Third preference will be given to an undergraduate student pursing a degree in business.

To apply, please provide a completed UNT Alumni Association scholarship application.

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Westurn Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the G. Brint Ryan College of Business (or its successor) in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need full-time enrollment;
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in any degree-granting program in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business (or its successor) at the University;
  4. Demonstrate eligibility for need-based financial assistance as determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or its successor, which includes an application process that contains written release from the student to share FAFSA information between UNT departments and donors coordinating related award processes;
  5. Be employed at least 15 hours per week;
  6. Be a member of good standing of one or more of the following organizations on campus:
    1. Campus Outreach
    2. Campus Wide Ministries
    3. Cross Timbers College
    4. Every Nation Campus
    5. Hope Campus Fellowship
    6. Young Life
  7. To apply, applicants will provide:
    • A completed UNT Alumni Association Scholarship application
    • Submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words explaining the impact of receiving the scholarship, details of his or her service to their organization and information about their work situation;
    • Submit two (2) letters of recommendation: one from a current employer and one from an officer in their service organization. Letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted

UNT Scholarship Requirements

  • Awardees for all UNT Alumni Association scholarships must meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the scholarship committee in effect at the time of any award.
  • Applicants must maintain full-time enrollment in an applicable degree-granting program at the university, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be a full-time student remaining in their degree program.
  • Scholarship awardees must maintain a 3.0 GPA during all semesters during which they are receiving the scholarship. Students unable to meet enrollment requirements due to mitigating circumstances should reach out to the UNT Alumni Association to request a scholarship appeal.

Completed scholarship appeals will be reviewed by a scholarship committee, and notification regarding the appeal outcome will be provided through the student’s assigned UNT EagleConnect email address.

All UNT Alumni Association scholarships may continue to be awarded to previous recipients on an annual basis in successive years if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements outlined.
